
The Director of Communications role serves as the primary architect of Multnomah County's public voice, reporting directly to the Chair's Office. This executive leader is responsible for developing countywide strategic communications frameworks, managing the communications team and budget, and serving as the principal spokesperson during major announcements and crisis events. The position requires advising senior leadership on long-term planning, overseeing media relations, and ensuring all messaging promotes equity and transparency. The role offers the appeal of leading a pivotal function within a complex political environment while fostering a culture of dignity and respect. It operates on a hybrid telework basis, requiring three days onsite at the Multnomah Building in Portland, with the expectation that employees reside in Oregon or Washington.
