This position is dedicated to promoting self-determination, recovery, and self-advocacy for individuals navigating the mental health system. As a Peer Specialist, you will serve as a vital bridge between clinical services and community life, modeling how to choose, obtain, and maintain stability through your own lived experience.
The role exists to empower individuals to identify their strengths, set wellness goals, and overcome barriers to recovery. You will work alongside treatment teams to help individuals learn how to ask for appropriate services, manage their own wellness plans using manualized strategies like IMR/WMR and WRAP, and build the social skills necessary for community integration. A core part of your day involves sharing your personal story to foster hope, connecting individuals to support groups to decrease isolation, and teaching practical skills such as transportation navigation and crisis planning.
Beyond direct client support, you will play a key role in shaping the organizational culture. By providing education to staff and leading recovery support groups, you help ensure that an individual's points of view and preferences are recognized, respected, and integrated into all aspects of service delivery.
AltaPointe is committed to a culture where care is delivered with dignity, compassion, and respect. We value the unique perspectives of those with lived experience and actively seek individuals who can speak openly about their own diagnosis and treatment history. Our environment prioritizes the privacy and confidentiality of our consumers while fostering a cooperative and gentle approach to supporting families and individuals in need.
Candidates must be current or former recipients of mental health services for at least one year and be able to identify as a consumer of mental health services. The selection process includes a review of your lived experience and professional qualifications, followed by an interview to assess your fit within our team. Successful candidates will be required to attend out-of-town Peer Specialist training for certification and will be expected to attain specific adult competencies within six months of employment.
AltaPointe is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment where personal values do not inhibit the ability to relate and care for others. We treat all consumers, visitors, and co-workers with care and respect, ensuring that individual differences are honored in every interaction.
