The Transportation Aide / Paraprofessional serves as a vital bridge between home and school for students with special needs. This dual-focus position ensures student safety and well-being during transit while providing essential support within the classroom environment. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher or Program Specialist, you will help students develop independence in academics, social skills, and activities of daily living.
Your day involves meeting students at their residences to supervise their journey to and from school, monitoring behavior and health concerns along the route. Upon arrival, you transition to supporting students with mobility issues, hygiene, feeding, and educational activities, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment that aligns with individual IEP goals.
This role operates on a regular school year schedule (August through June) and an optional extended school year (June through July). Hours are determined by the bus schedule, typically running Monday through Friday for the regular year and Tuesday through Friday for the extended year. The position requires flexibility to cover planned or unplanned absences by coordinating with other staff members or administration to ensure continuous student coverage.
