Founded on the principle that "any person can find instruction in any study," Cornell University is dedicated to inclusion and belonging. We strive to be a welcoming, caring, and healthy community where students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, abilities, and experiences can learn, innovate, and work in an environment of respect. As a member of the Cornell community, we share a responsibility to cultivate a culture where everyone feels empowered to engage in any conversation.
As a Chef de Cuisine on the Statler Hotel Management Team, you will report directly to the Executive Chef and serve as a vital leader within our dining operations. This role is not just about culinary excellence; it is about fostering a culture of inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing. You will model these values by creating an environment where the Back of House (BOH) team, students, and Front of House (FOH) colleagues can thrive, navigate challenges, and feel supported.
In this position, you will lead daily operations for our dining outlets, including Taverna Banfi, The Regent Lounge, and In Room Dining. You will collaborate with restaurant management to maintain our Four Diamond status and drive continuous improvement. Beyond operational leadership, you will play a key educational role, training staff and students on food safety, kitchen protocols, and cost control. You will also build relationships with local purveyors and assist in maintaining food and labor costs through effective menu engineering and scheduling.
Every member of our community is expected to foster a healthy work environment by communicating across differences, showing respect and empathy, and supporting work/life integration. As a people manager and university leader, you will ensure that your team has the tools and support needed to succeed.
