As a Para Sped High Incidence, you will serve as a vital partner to teachers and administrators in USD 259, supporting students with cognitive, communication, social, behavioral, and emotional disabilities. Your primary mission is to facilitate academic and adaptive behavior skills instruction, ensuring these students can successfully integrate into regular education environments.
Working under the direct supervision of a department supervisor and the direction of certificated staff, you will help manage classroom routines, implement behavior plans, and provide individualized instruction. This role requires a high degree of tact and diplomacy, as you will interact daily with a diverse population of students, parents, and colleagues. You will be expected to maintain a positive attitude and provide quick, responsive customer service to all internal and external stakeholders.
Your day involves a dynamic mix of instructional support, behavioral intervention, and logistical assistance. You may assist in the physical setup of the classroom, integrate technology like SMART boards and iPads, and help students with self-advocacy and curriculum engagement. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to observing and charting student behavior, documenting occurrences, and helping to defuse crisis situations using Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques when necessary.
Beyond the classroom, you will support students during school activities, assist with transportation to and from buses, and help with basic needs such as hygiene, feeding, and physical transfers. You will also participate in staff meetings, PLCs, and parent conferences, collaborating with the team to ensure the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) is effectively implemented.
USD 259 values professionalism, confidentiality, and a positive image. Employees are expected to dress appropriately for their position and maintain punctuality, working all scheduled hours unless approved leave is taken. We foster a collaborative environment where effective communication, conflict resolution, and teaming skills are essential. You will be encouraged to pursue professional growth, with a requirement for annual in-service training to stay current on best practices in child development, language acquisition, and safety.

Specific positions may require 48 accredited college credits, a state-approved assessment, or specialized knowledge in sign language, Braille, or crisis intervention.
