As a Para Sped High Incidence, you will serve as an essential partner to certified teachers in USD 259, supporting students with cognitive, communication, social, behavioral, and emotional disabilities. Your primary mission is to facilitate academic growth and the development of adaptive behavior skills within a supportive, inclusive classroom environment.
You will work under the supervision of an administrator and the direct direction of a licensed educator. This role is designed for individuals who are flexible, responsive, and dedicated to fostering a safe, positive atmosphere where students can thrive. Whether assisting with daily routines, managing behavior interventions, or supporting physical needs, your presence helps bridge the gap between instruction and student success.
Your day is dynamic and student-centered. You will assist in managing classroom procedures, integrating technology like SMART boards and iPads, and facilitating the physical setup for group activities. A significant portion of your time is spent supporting students as they navigate the school day, including transportation to and from buses, moving between classrooms, and participating in community-based instruction.
You will actively engage with students using questioning techniques to encourage self-advocacy and curriculum participation. This includes providing individual or group instruction after the teacher's initial lesson, helping with hygiene and self-care needs, and documenting student behavior to support positive development. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure consistent communication and the successful implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Candidates must meet specific qualification profiles, including a High School Diploma or GED. For positions in Title I schools, a minimum of 48 accredited college credits or a passing score on a state-approved assessment is required. Some roles may necessitate specialized knowledge in sign language, Braille, or Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI).
Interested applicants should review the full qualification requirements and submit their application through the USD 259 employment portal. The district values professionalism, punctuality, and a positive attitude, expecting all employees to maintain appropriate dress and adhere to scheduled hours.
USD 259 is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all students and staff. We recognize the unique needs of a diverse population and seek team members who can interact with tact, diplomacy, and cultural sensitivity. We encourage individuals with specialized skills and a passion for special education to join our team.
USD 259 is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status. We strive to create a workplace where every employee contributes to the district's mission and goals.
