This position serves as a vital link in the diagnostic process at the SCPMG Regional Reference Lab. You will perform venipuncture and skin punctures, handling the pre-analytical and post-analytical steps of laboratory testing for patients of all ages. Your work ensures the accurate collection and preparation of specimens, ranging from standard blood draws to specialized procedures like bone marrow collection.
Your day involves selecting the appropriate phlebotomy technique based on a patient's age and physical maturation. You will assess blood quality, perform venipuncture, finger sticks, or heel sticks, and manage the subsequent processing of specimens, including bar coding, centrifuging, separating, logging, culturing, and staining bacteriological samples. Beyond technical duties, you will maintain inventory levels, assist with patient check-ins, and provide preparation instructions. The role requires professionalism in handling difficult patients and maintaining cooperative relations with the public and medical personnel.
This role is based at the 4700 location with a requirement to work every other weekend. The schedule alternates weekly: Week 1 includes Tuesday through Saturday (9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.), while Week 2 includes Sunday, Monday, and Thursday through Friday (9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.). You will also be expected to float to other Medical Office Building (MOB) locations as needed.
