The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) serves as a critical leadership partner to the Store Manager, acting as the primary supervisor for customer service associates and designated hitters. This role is designed to groom future Store Managers by providing hands-on experience in managing the front end and pharmacy operations while supporting the overall delivery of company goals.
In this position, you will assume full responsibility for all store activities when the Store Manager is absent, ensuring seamless continuity of operations. You will work an alternate schedule with minimal overlap to the Store Manager, allowing you to lead the team through daily cycles, from opening and closing to managing complex scheduling conflicts and shift changes.
Your day is defined by a balance of operational excellence and people leadership. You will actively engage with customers and patients, resolving complaints and modeling best practices to drive loyalty and positive experiences. Simultaneously, you will supervise the store team, delegating tasks, monitoring performance, and providing coaching to ensure high standards in both the front-end and pharmacy.
You will be accountable for the store's financial health, analyzing data to create action plans that improve sales and profitability. This includes managing cash control, inventory trends, and ensuring strict compliance with all laws and regulations regarding the sale of alcohol, tobacco, and pharmacy products. Beyond operations, you will foster a culture of accountability and development, participating in the recruitment process and mentoring team members to help them grow their careers.
This role is a strategic stepping stone. Successful candidates are expected to complete the Store Manager learning and development program (LEAP) or Walgreens Leadership Essentials training within 12 weeks. The position offers a clear trajectory for growth, with the expectation of accepting a promotion to Store Manager if offered, which may involve relocation to a different store location.
To apply, candidates must meet the basic qualifications, which include a Bachelor's degree, completion of a Walgreens Community Internship Program, or a High School Diploma/GED with two years of supervisory experience. Fluency in English and a willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, are required.
We are committed to building a diverse pipeline of future leaders. We consider employment of qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records and are an Equal Opportunity Employer, including disability/veterans.
At Walgreens, we believe in empowering our team members to find impactful resolutions for customers and to drive the future of our stores through community outreach. We foster an environment of open communication, where leaders and team members engage in regular one-on-one discussions and group meetings to ensure strategies are clearly understood and executed.
