As a Custodian at Pt. Harmony Elementary, you play a vital role in maintaining the county's buildings in a state of operating excellence, ensuring a safe and interruption-free environment for the educational program. Whether you are a Custodian I, III, or IV, your work directly supports the daily operations of the school and the broader Kanawha County Schools (KCS) community.
The role involves a dynamic mix of daily custodial duties, facility maintenance, and safety oversight. You will be responsible for cleaning classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas, as well as managing grounds and equipment. For Custodian III and IV roles, responsibilities expand to include operating heating and cooling systems, performing minor repairs, and potentially supervising other custodial personnel. A unique aspect of the 261-day contract is the summer term, where Custodians III and IV work in teams at schools within their feeder areas to ensure facilities are prepared for the upcoming academic year.
You will report to the Building Principal and Facility Supervisor, working with minimal supervision to solve practical problems and maintain a neat, orderly work area. The position requires interacting effectively with students, staff, and the public, presenting information clearly, and adhering to strict safety and confidentiality protocols.
Candidates must meet specific qualifications, including a High School diploma or equivalent, and pass a criminal background check and a state-approved competency test. The selection process includes written and physical tests directly related to the position's essential functions. Successful candidates will be evaluated annually in accordance with WV State Code and KCS performance guidelines.
