By joining the American Red Cross, you become part of the world's largest humanitarian network, touching millions of lives every year. Our mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. We are a community of exceptional, welcoming individuals who are diverse yet uncompromising in our unity. Here, success is measured not in profits, but in the people helped, communities made whole, and individuals equipped to change lives for the better.
The Community Volunteer Engagement Senior Specialist is a vital force for good, designed to mobilize regional teams of volunteers to deliver impactful missions across all Red Cross lines of service. This role exists to grow local community volunteer capacity and design innovative opportunities that meet evolving mission, community, and volunteer needs.
As a "player/coach," you will work directly with volunteers in your assigned jurisdictions while supporting volunteer specialists across the region. You will align your career with a purpose bigger than yourself, managing the community volunteer workforce, liaising with community programming leads, and serving as a subject matter expert in designing non-traditional volunteer opportunities. Your work ensures that community-based programming—from preparedness to restoring family links and veteran services—is fully staffed and effective.
This position requires a hybrid work model, with 3 days spent in the office and 40-50% regional travel. You will operate within a culture that respects who you are away from work as much as what you do while at work. The role involves managing ambiguity, working in matrix environments, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to translate ideas into actionable plans.
Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered for employment in accordance with the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Act, the California Fair Chance Act, and other applicable laws. Please note that a criminal background check is required for this position due to the nature of the duties involving interaction with vulnerable individuals and access to sensitive information. You will not be asked to provide information about your criminal history unless and until you receive a conditional offer of employment.
The American Red Cross is an Equal Opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by law. We are proud to be an Employers of National Service (EONS) partner, connecting national service alumni with opportunities in the workforce.
