The Collections Specialist plays a vital role in proactively managing delinquent accounts by engaging directly with Credit Union members. This position is designed to identify potential risks and work collaboratively with members to resolve payment issues, offering tailored repayment solutions and strategies that mitigate losses for the Credit Union.
Your daily focus will be on contacting members regarding loans in default through phone, email, and text message. You will serve as the primary support for all incoming and outgoing call efforts, assisting the Default Management team with repossessions and other escalated collections matters. A key part of your role involves proactively discussing accounts to identify the root causes of delinquency and working with members to develop repayment plans or loan modifications that bring accounts current.
We emphasize a consultative approach to restructuring loans, providing members with direction to improve their future financial outlook. You will also connect members with financial education resources and tools to help them manage their finances and avoid future delinquencies. Success in this role requires establishing proficiency in all current and future software systems utilized by the Loss Mitigation team, including core operating systems, collections software, payment portals, and document retention tools.
You will be responsible for accurately documenting all member interactions, payment agreements, and action plans in the core collection system while maintaining sufficient call volume and quality standards. Collaboration with other internal business units ensures a coordinated approach to loss prevention, and you will assist the Loss Mitigation Manager in reviewing reports on delinquency trends and recovery efforts. Throughout these activities, you must ensure full compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as Credit Union policies, while taking ownership of your actions and results.
