The Chemical Operator is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and optimizing plant and recovery system processes to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. This role serves as the frontline for maintaining operational integrity, requiring the operator to take and verify meter and gauge readings, adjust system flows and computer-controlled processes, troubleshoot discrepancies, and implement corrective actions. The position also supports hands-on plant activities such as equipment inspection, sampling, basic lab analysis, recordkeeping, and general plant upkeep. It is a safety and security-sensitive position dealing with hazardous materials and industrial processes that can pose a risk to employees and the general public.
Operators work a rotating shift pattern consisting of two shifts: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM (day shift) or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (night shift). The schedule follows a 4-week rotation pattern that includes blocks of day and night shifts interspersed with days off. In addition to this schedule, there may be instances where mandatory overtime is required that may disrupt the usual shift rotation, averaging 10-15% (2-3 shifts per 4-week rotation).
This role requires working in close proximity to chemical processes with toxic or caustic chemicals, airborne particles, fumes, extreme heat, extreme cold, vibrations, and electrical hazards. Employees frequently work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions, often exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The position demands the ability to work a full 12-hour shift, often standing, walking, and climbing, and to climb ladders and stairways up to 100 feet high to operate equipment or take readings.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. This position requires candidates to be local to the site location or willing to relocate independently, as relocation assistance is not provided. The facility is required to comply with security standards under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) CFATS regulation 6 CFR Part 27.
