The Building Principal serves as the site instructional leader, responsible for the total operation of the school. This role encompasses the administration and supervision of all phases of the instructional program, alongside the management of the facility. The Principal provides the leadership, administrative, and supervisory skills necessary for the educational development of students while actively promoting parent and community involvement.
Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Principal supervises all certified and classified employees assigned to the building. The position requires a KSDE Building Leadership License and a master's degree in educational administration. While ten years of combined teaching and school administration experience is preferred, the Board may accept other alternatives as appropriate.
As the instructional leader, you will lead the planning and implementation of professional development within the building, ensuring staff are equipped to drive instructional improvement. Your day involves coordinating and supervising building-level activities, evaluating program implementation, and assisting faculty in developing effective classroom discipline and organization.
You will be responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly school environment, performing regular emergency drills (intruder, fire, tornado), and implementing evacuations or lock-downs as needed. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to building positive relationships with administrators, staff, citizens, and community members, as well as communicating policies regarding student discipline, conduct, and attendance to all stakeholders.
You will also assist in curriculum development to meet the needs of all students, mentor staff, and utilize data and assessments to improve student learning. Fiscal, facility, and resource management are key components, ensuring the school operates efficiently while adhering to all district policies, state statutes, and federal regulations.
Candidates must hold a valid building leadership license issued by the Kansas State Board of Education. The selection process will evaluate qualifications including a master's degree in educational administration and relevant experience. The contract length for this position is 210 days.
