The Youth Services Division operates 24/7 across three buildings on the John Serbu Youth Campus in Eugene, Oregon. With approximately 65 full-time staff, the division manages six program units, including Administration, Juvenile Department, Detention, Clinical Services, the Martin Luther King (MLK) Education Center, and Nutrition Services. The work is complex, covering diverse subject matters governed by multiple regulatory bodies.
Lane County Youth Services is dedicated to creating a workplace where leadership thrives, ideas are valued, and professional growth is supported. The division is deeply focused on cultivating a positive workplace culture and addressing long-standing structural and cultural deficits. We are driven to improve the lives of justice-involved youth and their families.
The Detention Supervisor supports the safety, security, and evidence-informed care of youth in custody and residential settings. This role directs activities, programs, and care for youth detained in the facility, supervises up to 26 employees, and maintains a safe environment for both staff and youth in secure and non-secure facilities.
You will foster a culture of trust, resilience, and a growth mindset while following Performance-based Standards with a focus on data-driven continuous improvement. The position involves managing complex youth behaviors, utilizing verbal and physical skills to de-escalate volatile situations, and responding to crises that may require physical intervention. You will also provide oversight for procedures regarding admission, discharge, restraint use, and service planning.
Lane County is committed to providing services using Trauma-Informed Care practices. We recognize that many individuals we serve have experienced trauma, and our agency is dedicated to incorporating an understanding of trauma with both our clients and each other to avoid re-traumatization.
Applicants are required to upload a CV or resume to be considered; applications without an attachment will be rejected as incomplete. We encourage candidates to think broadly about their background and skill set. Studies show that women and BIPOC individuals are less likely to apply unless they believe they can perform every task listed. We are most interested in finding the best candidate, who may come from a less traditional background, and the county will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications.
Lane County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential elements that create and foster a welcoming workplace. All qualified persons will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, political affiliation, disability, or any other factor unrelated to the essential functions of the job.
In alignment with the Strategic Plan, incumbent(s) will be expected to demonstrate core behaviors: Passion to Serve, Driven to Connect, and Focused on Solutions. Our vision is to leverage our people and partnerships to achieve our Strategic Priorities, ensuring Lane County remains the best place in which to live, work, and play.
