About the Role
The Youth Intern position is a seasonal summer opportunity designed for minors aged 15 to 17. This role serves as an introduction to the operations of Petersburg Medical Center, offering participants a unique chance to work within the facility and gain insight into department-specific workflows and responsibilities.
Interns will develop a comprehensive understanding of the organization, its various departments, and the functional areas within the hospital. The position focuses on engaging with residents through individual and group activities that encourage social interaction, maintain independence, and honor personal hobbies and interests. Interns will also learn about the systems utilized by PMC and may assist in planning special events alongside the Activities Coordinator.
Working Conditions
Interns work in a clean, well-lit environment surrounded by patients, residents, family members, and staff. The role involves physical activity such as walking, bending, and stooping, as well as carrying light items like craft supplies. Interns may assist with pushing wheelchairs and supporting events both on and off campus. All duties are performed under the direction of the Department Supervisor, Lead, or designee.
Application & Hiring Process
This is a paid, seasonal position running from June through late August, with a schedule of four hours per day, Monday through Friday. The position is open until filled.
Requirements for Application:
- Must be a high school or home school student aged 15 or older.
- Must possess a work permit approved by the State of Alaska (required for minors under 18).
Employment Conditions:
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation conducted by the State of Alaska.
- All employees must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening.
- Employees must meet all immunization requirements mandated by the State of Alaska and Federal regulations governing healthcare facilities.
