The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), Division of Wildlife Conservation, is dedicated to the conservation and management of Alaska's fish and wildlife and their habitats. This position supports that mission by engaging in proactive conservation of Alaska's "species of greatest conservation need" (SGCN) as described in the State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP). You will join a team of passionate professionals working to responsibly manage Alaska's natural resources, collaborating with state and federal partners, non-governmental organizations, and the public to conserve Alaska's biodiversity.
As a Wildlife Biologist 1 or 2, you will assist the Threatened, Endangered, and Diversity (TED) Program with conducting applied research on SGCN, including boreal resident and migratory birds, seabirds, small mammals, and amphibians. Research priorities are driven by Alaska's 2025 State Wildlife Action Plan, focusing on trends, drivers of decline, and conservation actions to mitigate or reverse population losses. You will also work to fill information gaps for Alaska populations to inform future management actions.
This role offers a dynamic blend of office work and fieldwork in remote locations across the state. You may be required to travel away from your duty station in Douglas or Fairbanks for up to a month at a time to conduct field research. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, self-motivated biologist capable of persevering in challenging field conditions, creatively solving problems, and working both independently and as part of a team.
This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please review the residency definition to determine if you qualify before applying.
