Allegheny County and CFA are building a dedicated team at the Engagement Center in downtown Pittsburgh. Our mission is to help adults transition from homelessness to stable housing while advancing other life goals that matter to them. The Engagement Center serves as a low-barrier, welcoming sanctuary where individuals can access essential services, receive advocacy, and simply "be." It is a place to get a shower, socialize, and find community. The building also houses a health clinic, a behavioral health residential program, and acts as a hub for community providers to meet clients and share crucial information.
The Volunteer Coordinator is the architect of connection at the Engagement Center. This role creates, organizes, and implements both a client-volunteer program and a community-volunteer program designed to deliver concrete benefits to our guests and help the Center become a true good neighbor. You will serve as a vital collaborator, constantly asking how volunteer programs can fill gaps, consulting with the street Occupational Therapy program and other providers to ensure volunteering is habilitative, and finding ways to improve the Center's capacity to support clients in their journey forward.
We are looking for someone who listens well, cares deeply, and understands how volunteering can restore a person's sense of hope and pride. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, an excellent writer, and skilled at building networks with strong follow-through. Recognizing that time and space at the Center are precious, you will discerningly evaluate every opportunity, asking: "Will this help clients prepare for housing or feel more motivated to pursue their goals?"
Candidates selected for an interview will be invited to discuss their experience and vision for the volunteer programs. The process includes a review of qualifications and a conversation about how your approach aligns with the Center's mission of dignity and support.
Allegheny County and CFA are committed to diversity and inclusion. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or veteran status. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job, consistent with applicable law.
