The Utility Technician I serves as the frontline support for the Union County Water Department, ensuring the reliability and safety of the county's water and sewer infrastructure. This entry-level position is critical for maintaining public health and operational continuity, handling everything from routine system upkeep to emergency response scenarios.
In this role, you will be the hands-on expert keeping the network running. Your day-to-day involves a dynamic mix of fieldwork and technical operation. You will install and repair water and sewer taps, locate underground lines, and perform essential maintenance on fire hydrants and valves. The role requires operating a wide array of heavy equipment, including excavators, backhoes, and vacuum/hydraulic jetter equipment, to clean lines and manage right-of-ways.
Safety and compliance are at the core of your responsibilities. You will conduct water quality sampling, investigate pressure issues, and work in permit-required confined spaces while adhering to strict safety protocols. The position also demands flexibility, as you will serve on a rotation for on-call duties and night shifts to address emergencies and critical system failures.
Candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a pre-placement drug and/or alcohol test as a condition of employment.
