The Utility Technician I serves as an entry-level cornerstone of the Union County Water Department, dedicated to maintaining the integrity and safety of the region's water and sewer infrastructure. Under general supervision, this role is vital for ensuring reliable service to the community through proactive maintenance, emergency response, and system repairs.
This position involves a dynamic day-to-day routine that blends field operations with technical precision. You will be responsible for installing and repairing water and sewer taps, conducting routine inspections, and performing preventative maintenance on a wide array of heavy equipment and facilities. The role requires operating diverse machinery, including trucks, excavators, and vacuum/hydraulic jetter equipment, while navigating permit-required confined spaces to clean and maintain lines.
Beyond technical tasks, the Technician acts as a frontline representative for the department. You will assist customers with complaints, conduct water sampling to ensure regulatory compliance, and manage utility right-of-ways, including mowing and landscaping.
