This role is based within the Cobb County Water System's Maintenance Division. The position is critical to ensuring the reliability and safety of the county's water distribution and wastewater collection infrastructure. You will lead a crew in executing daily maintenance, repair, and emergency response activities across assigned regions.
The schedule involves four 10-hour shifts per week, rotating between Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday. The role requires flexibility to work shift rotations that include day and night shifts, call-outs, standby status, holidays, and weekends as needed to support continuous system operations.
As a team lead, you will coordinate daily work activities, assigning tasks to your crew and monitoring progress to ensure high-quality results. Your day will involve a mix of field operations and technical oversight. You will install, maintain, and repair water and sewer lines, locate utilities, and clear debris from manholes and lines. This includes performing confined space entries, excavating around infrastructure, and restoring landscapes such as driveways, sidewalks, and curbs after repairs.
You will utilize advanced tools including GPS, GIS mapping, and CCTV cameras to inspect sewer lines, document defects, and manage temporary flow meter installations. A significant portion of your time will be spent operating heavy utility trucks and specialized equipment like jet hoses, jackhammers, and chainsaws. Safety is paramount; you will be responsible for directing traffic, placing safety markers, and ensuring all crew members adhere to strict safety protocols and wear appropriate protective equipment.
Beyond field work, you will manage inventory, perform preventive maintenance on equipment, and coordinate with contracted vendors. You will also oversee meter reading processes, upload data, and review exception reports. In emergency situations, you will provide immediate coverage and work on standby to resolve critical infrastructure issues.
Candidates must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements and a Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection System Operator license, or have specialized training in large water meter maintenance. A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by three years of experience in water or wastewater infrastructure maintenance, is required.
