As a Team Lead at FedEx Freight, you will coordinate and perform the duties of operations personnel to ensure the timely and damage-free movement of shipments. This role is critical for maintaining safe work procedures and operational efficiency within both office and dock environments.
You will serve as the on-the-ground leader for your assigned team, coordinating the loading and unloading of trucks in a safe and efficient manner. In the absence of a supervisor, you will conduct pre-shift meetings, assign work tasks, and ensure the necessary manpower is available to meet daily goals. Your day involves providing on-the-job training to team members, monitoring the operation of material handling equipment, and ensuring all established policies and job methods are followed.
Beyond operational coordination, this position requires active collaboration with management to provide input on employee development and conduct issues. You will act as a key communication link, giving and receiving feedback, asking questions, and keeping management informed regarding job methods and productivity. The role demands quick decision-making and problem-solving skills to prioritize assignments and adapt to a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment that may require extended hours, different shifts, and weekend work.
Duties are performed in a hybrid environment, alternating between an office setting and the dock. Team members are exposed to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise. The physical demands of the role include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, bending, twisting, and squatting. You must be capable of lifting and carrying hand freight of varying weights, lifting dock plates weighing approximately 100 pounds, and opening trailer doors requiring approximately 75 pounds of lift force several times per day.
