This position serves as a vital partner in the educational journey of students with diverse needs. You will guide learning in accordance with the district's philosophy, ensuring the achievement of both curriculum goals and individualized education program (IEP) objectives. The role requires a unique blend of instructional expertise and therapeutic support, where you will implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs tailored to assigned students.
In this capacity, you will collaborate closely with students, parents, and staff to develop IEPs through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process. Your day-to-day involves planning and utilizing appropriate instructional strategies that reflect an understanding of various learning styles, while also offering accelerated instruction to students meeting state "at-risk" criteria. You will be responsible for creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students, managing behavior through positive, proactive, and instructional means.
Beyond the classroom, you will work cooperatively with instructional supervisors and colleagues to modify curricula for special education, 504, ELL, and GT students. You will also supervise teacher aides and volunteers, integrate technology into teaching, and maintain open communication with all stakeholders. As a positive role model, you will take necessary precautions to protect students and ensure their safety during drills and crisis situations.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a valid Texas certificate for the subject and level assigned. Applicants should have at least one year of student teaching or an approved internship. The selection process focuses on identifying individuals with demonstrated competency in their subject area, knowledge of special needs, and the ability to incorporate behavior principles effectively.
