This position is dedicated to empowering students receiving special education services by providing tailored learning activities that foster their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The role involves developing and modifying curricula to match individual student abilities, ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Educators in this capacity may work in self-contained classrooms, collaborate within team or departmental structures, or serve in an itinerant role, adapting their approach to meet the diverse needs of the student body. The position requires a deep understanding of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to guide specially designed instruction.
A typical day involves a dynamic blend of direct instruction, collaboration, and case management. You will work cooperatively with general education teachers to modify regular curricula and assist students in inclusive settings. A significant portion of your time is dedicated to planning and executing instructional strategies that reflect the unique learning styles of your students.
You will lead ARD and transition committee meetings, collaborating with parents, students, and staff to develop and refine IEPs. Depending on the specific needs of your caseload, your responsibilities may also include supervising instructional aides and volunteers, conducting assessments to track student progress, and providing necessary personal or medical care as outlined in student IEPs. The role demands the ability to manage student behavior effectively, including intervening in crisis situations when required, while maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment.
Educators in this role are expected to uphold the highest standards of the Texas Educators' Code of Ethics, ensuring ethical conduct toward students, colleagues, and the community. Professional growth is a priority, with an expectation to stay abreast of the latest research and best practices through participation in national and state organizations, professional development opportunities, and the dissemination of relevant information.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and a valid Texas teaching certificate with the required endorsement for the assigned subject and level, or be enrolled in an approved alternative certification program.
