This position is dedicated to empowering special education students by providing tailored learning activities and experiences. The primary mission is to help students fulfill their potential across intellectual, emotional, physical, and social domains. Teachers in this role will develop or modify curricula and prepare instructional materials specifically aligned with individual student ability levels.
The role may be fulfilled in a self-contained classroom, through team or departmental collaboration, or in an itinerant capacity, depending on district needs. Success in this position requires a deep understanding of the unique needs of special needs students, the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process, and the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
You will serve as a vital link between students, families, and the broader school community. Your day involves collaborating with parents and staff to develop comprehensive IEPs and implementing therapeutic or skill development programs. You will plan and utilize diverse instructional strategies, materials, and technology to accommodate various learning styles.
Beyond academics, you will play a key role in student growth and development by conducting ongoing assessments, supervising personal and medical care as outlined in IEPs, and sponsoring extracurricular activities. You will also manage the classroom environment to ensure it is conducive to learning, addressing behavior and crisis situations with care and adherence to safety protocols.
