About Save the Children

For over 100 years, Save the Children has been fighting for the rights of children. We work in some of the world's hardest-to-reach places—over 100 countries, including the U.S.—to ensure every child has the right to a healthy start in life, access to education, and a safe environment protected from harm. No matter your role, joining us means creating positive, irreversible change for children and the future we all share.

About the Role

As a Head Start Teacher, you will be the front-line representative of our mission, developing and implementing individual and group educational plans designed to promote social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth in preschool children. This role is about more than just teaching; it is about nurturing strong partnerships with families and ensuring the program quality remains at the highest standards.

You will manage the day-to-day operations of a Head Start classroom, verifying legal compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Reporting directly to the Center Director or Manager of Education & Inclusion, you will supervise Teacher Assistants and collaborate with Program Aides and Volunteers. As a guardian of safety and security, you will adhere to our core values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaboration, Creativity, and Integrity, ensuring a safe environment for the children and families you serve.

Our Culture and Commitment to Safety

We are building an inclusive team where every voice matters. Save the Children is explicitly committed to conducting all programs and operations in a manner that is safe for the children we serve. All representatives are prohibited from engaging in any activity that may result in child abuse. We share a duty, both as an agency and as individuals, to seek and maintain safe working conditions for all.

We also prioritize the well-being of our employees, offering training, support, and information to minimize safety and security risks while maximizing our impact on families.

Hiring Process and Application

If you require disability assistance with the application or recruitment process, please submit a request to applicantsupport@savechildren.org.

Please note that this position requires a clear pre-employment background check, including local, state, and national criminal records checks, sex offender registries, and child abuse registry checks where required. Candidates must also pass all state and local health requirements prior to employment.

Equal Opportunity

Save the Children is an equal opportunity employer. Current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents will receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background.
