The Elementary School Teacher serves as a vital partner in implementing the District's instructional program and educational philosophy. This role is designed to prepare students to increase their academic performance and meet state standards through collaboration with the broader school community. Teachers are expected to act with integrity, champion student needs, and drive continuous improvement while communicating clearly and respectfully.
Your day involves creating an environment conducive to learning through effective lesson planning, clear subject presentation, and engaging activities. You will manage classroom procedures, organize the learning space, and practice positive discipline techniques to help students gain self-control and responsibility. Beyond the classroom, you will supervise student safety, coordinate with librarians and counselors, and maintain accurate records for student progress and attendance.
A significant part of the role involves initiating and maintaining communication with parents to share student progress, inform them of programs, and address any concerns. You will also exemplify professionalism by staying current in education through workshops and professional organizations, adhering to the Texas Education Code of Ethics, and supporting the District's philosophy.
This position requires the ability to maintain emotional control under stress. The role involves frequent physical activity, including standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, and classroom furniture.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution and a valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements. A minimum of one year of student teaching or approved internship is required. For teachers applying to K-3, a Reading Certification is mandatory; for Pre-K, Grade 4, and Grade 5, it is preferred. Five years of successful classroom experience is also preferred.
