About the Role
This position serves as a vital support to professional nursing staff and physicians throughout the pre-procedure, procedure, and post-procedure periods. You will be the backbone of the operating room, ensuring the space is prepared in a timely fashion with the correct equipment and instruments for both scheduled and emergency cases.
Your day will involve assisting the surgeon as a first or second scrub person, maintaining a sterile field, and efficiently handling surgical instruments. You will work closely with the circulating nurse to account for all instruments, needles, and sponges, while verifying specimens and receiving correct implants for procedures. Beyond the sterile field, you will manage inventory control, clerical duties, and the decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of equipment using advanced machinery like steam sterilizers and ultrasonic cleaners. Additionally, you may assist in transporting patients and providing on-the-job training to new staff and students.
