This position serves as a critical leadership hub within the FedEx Freight dock environment, ensuring that customer satisfaction is achieved through the timely and damage-free movement of all shipments. The role exists to bridge operational execution with team development, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and efficiency.
In this capacity, you will lead, manage, and develop company employees with a specific focus on retention and growth. Your day involves supervising and directing employee work, including pre-shift activities, to ensure outstanding quality, customer deliverables, and safety performance. You will actively monitor, record, and educate the team regarding unsafe acts or conditions, implementing immediate corrective actions and providing follow-up feedback to all impacted employees.
The role requires a dynamic approach to daily operations, including planning manpower needs and setting schedules to guarantee that customer freight is delivered and picked up on time. You will communicate job assignments clearly, coordinate with all employees, and monitor service freight to ensure cut-time compliance. Additionally, you will analyze performance data to identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements while maintaining rigorous safety standards.
Beyond internal team management, you will serve as a key point of contact for customers, assisting with rate quotes, claim information, and appointment setting. You will also identify freight moving at incorrect weights or classifications and ensure all Over, Short, and Damaged (OS&D) items are processed properly. Success in this role demands the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, often exposed to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. While a thorough knowledge of the LTL industry, DOT rules, OSHA laws, and hazardous materials regulations is preferred, the primary focus is on the ability to multi-task, organize effectively, and utilize Microsoft Office tools.
