This position serves as a critical leadership hub within our dock operations, dedicated to ensuring customer satisfaction by orchestrating the timely and damage-free movement of all shipments. The role exists to bridge the gap between operational execution and service excellence, requiring a leader who can simultaneously manage people, processes, and compliance in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
In this capacity, you will lead, manage, and develop a team of employees with a specific focus on retention, growth, and safety performance. Your day-to-day involves supervising direct work, including pre-shift activities, to ensure outstanding quality and adherence to customer deliverables. You will actively monitor and educate the team on safety, identifying and correcting unsafe acts or conditions immediately while providing constructive feedback and follow-up.
Beyond people management, you will be responsible for planning daily manpower needs and setting schedules to guarantee that customer freight is delivered and picked up on time. This includes communicating clear job assignments, monitoring service freight for cut-time compliance, and analyzing performance data to identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements without compromising rigorous safety standards.
You will also serve as a key point of contact for business partners, assisting customers with rate quotes, claim information, and appointment setting. A significant part of the role involves ensuring freight accuracy by identifying incorrect weights and classifications and properly processing all Over, Short, and Damaged (OS&D) items. Success in this role requires navigating a dynamic dock environment with exposure to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise, while maintaining the ability to work independently or as part of a cohesive team.
