The Sterile Processing Technician plays a critical role in patient safety by retrieving, decontaminating, cleaning, assembling, processing, sterilizing, storing, and distributing medical devices, equipment, procedure trays, and supplies used in patient care. This position ensures that all instruments are prepared correctly for use in the Operating Room, Emergency Department, Delivery Rooms, Nurseries, and Outpatient Departments.
On-the-job training includes a concentrated orientation period with a minimum duration of eight weeks, which may extend depending on the candidate's learning pace and confidence. Training hours will vary as the candidate is required to gain comprehensive exposure to all departmental operations, including both opening and closing procedures. This may involve rotating through different shifts to ensure a full understanding of daily workflows and responsibilities across the department.
