As a Watson Candidate Assistant at Dallas ISD, you will serve as a vital support partner to teachers and students, ensuring a safe, organized, and inclusive learning environment. This role is designed to bridge the gap between instructional goals and the daily physical, emotional, and medical needs of students, particularly those with disabilities. You will be the eyes and ears of the classroom, adapting to each student's unique requirements while maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of every individual.
Your day will be dynamic and hands-on. You will assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays, ensuring the learning space is ready for student success. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to direct student support, including assisting with personal care needs such as feeding, hygiene, and transferring students to and from wheelchairs. You will also help manage classroom behavior, intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive behavior only as necessary to ensure safety.
Beyond the classroom walls, your responsibilities extend to the broader school community. You will supervise students during lunch, bus duty, and playground activities, ensuring safety and order throughout the school day. You will also support substitutes with orientation and assist in maintaining equipment and inventory. Travel throughout the district is an integral part of this position, requiring flexibility and punctual attendance at various worksites.
This is a campus-based position where regular and punctual attendance is essential. The work environment typically features a moderate noise level, reflecting the active nature of a school setting. Remote work or alternate work arrangements are not available, as the physical presence of the assistant is required to perform all duties effectively.
Dallas ISD is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community. We value the ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups and seek candidates who demonstrate flexibility in a rapidly changing educational landscape. We encourage bilingual individuals (English/Spanish) to apply, as this skill enhances our ability to serve our community.
To apply, candidates must possess an accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent, along with an Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or a passing academic assessment score. A Paraprofessional certificate from the State Board of Certification is required. While specific training programs or six months of relevant work experience are preferred, a demonstrated knowledge of child growth, development, and behavior is essential. We look for individuals with strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills who are willing to remain current with professional developments.
