As a Laboratory Specimen Processor, you serve as the critical first line of defense in the diagnostic journey, ensuring that every sample is received, identified, and routed with precision. Your work directly supports the technical sections of the laboratory by managing the flow of patient specimens, from the moment they arrive until they are ready for analysis. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of test results and the efficiency of the entire department.
In this position, you will handle a high volume of diverse samples, including blood, urine, and other body fluids. Your day involves sorting and prioritizing specimens according to strict laboratory policies, verifying that patient information matches requisitions, and entering critical data into the Laboratory Information System. You will also act as a resource for callers, answering inquiries about specimen collection and result ranges while maintaining a service-oriented approach that conveys courtesy and respect to all patients and colleagues.
Safety and compliance are at the heart of your daily routine. You will adhere to all health and safety regulations regarding biohazardous materials and sharps, ensuring a safe environment for yourself and others. The role requires a proactive attitude; you will monitor pneumatic tube and courier deliveries, investigate and resolve specimen discrepancies, and participate in the orientation and training of new team members. By disinfecting work areas and managing sample storage temperatures, you help uphold the high standards of quality and care that define our laboratory operations.
