Disability Rights Texas (DRTx) is the federally designated legal and protection advocacy organization for persons with disabilities in Texas. Our mission is to protect and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities across the state. We are a community dedicated to positive change, supporting employees who share a passion for amplifying advocacy and improving the lives of individuals with disabilities.
The Social Security Representative Payee Reviewer is a critical role within our organization, serving as an independent investigator for the Social Security Administration (SSA) Rep Payee Program. You will conduct site reviews of organizations and individuals acting as representative payees, ensuring they adhere to specific guidelines and protocols.
This position is designed for a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment. Your day will involve extensive travel throughout Texas, often to remote rural locations, to interview payees and beneficiaries, inspect worksites and housing facilities, and review financial records. You will assess potential mismanagement of funds, identify compliance issues, and develop corrective action plans to assist payees in meeting SSA requirements. While you will work independently to conduct these reviews, you will coordinate findings and reports with internal staff and supervisors.
Please note that while this role supports a statewide mission, it is based out of one of our offices in Houston, Austin, or San Antonio. Remote work is not available during the probationary period, and extensive travel within the state is a core requirement of the position.
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance through the United States Government Office of Personnel Management. The selection process will evaluate your ability to work independently, manage complex travel schedules, and handle sensitive situations with professionalism.
At DRTx, we believe in supporting our employees' well-being and work-life balance. We offer generous leave allocations, including personal leave days, vacation hours, and sick leave, along with a paid winter break to ensure everyone has time to recharge. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds to join our journey toward positive change.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
