This position serves as a Crew Leader for a small culvert inspection team within the LaPorte District. You will lead daily operations to inspect small culverts and pipes less than 4 feet wide, updating their condition on the state's database. The role requires coordinating field operations, scheduling daily activities, and ensuring inspections are completed and reported in a timely manner under the direction of the Culvert Asset Engineer.
A typical day involves traveling to various locations in the LaPorte district, operating utility vehicles like the John Deere Gator along INDOT right-of-way, and navigating uneven surfaces and steep slopes in various weather conditions. You will use mobile devices to photograph sites, input condition ratings, and communicate any deficiencies found. The position operates on a 4-day work schedule and includes on-call duties during winter for snow and ice call-outs.
Candidates with a current CDL and required endorsements will earn an additional $1 per hour. Those without a CDL will be given 90 days to obtain their license and endorsements, after which the additional pay applies. CDL training is provided onsite by certified INDOT staff. All candidates must pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
