This position serves as the frontline of safety and security for Wisconsin Community Services (WCS), providing unarmed staffing at the WCS Administration Building and the Community Based Mental Health Programs facility. The role is dedicated to ensuring a secure environment for participants, staff, and visitors through consistent, professional interaction.
Beyond primary site coverage, this role acts as a flexible resource, providing backup security assistance across a wide network of WCS program locations. These include the Milwaukee County Day Reporting Center, Parsons House, Joshua Glover, Thurgood Marshall Apartments, Shelter Care, Project Excel, Bakari Center, Sankofa House, Swigart, North Campus, and various Behavioral Health Community Based Mental Health Programs. The position also supports drop-in security assessments to maintain safety standards across these diverse sites.
You will be the first point of contact for visitors and participants, greeting them warmly while ensuring proper sign-in and sign-out procedures are followed. A deep knowledge of WCS programs and their specific locations is essential to effectively direct individuals and answer inquiries.
Your day involves conducting thorough interior and exterior building checks to identify potential hazards. You will be prepared to de-escalate situations involving participants, removing individuals from the premises if necessary to maintain safety. In the event of emergencies, such as fire or tornado drills, you will assist in clearing floors and evacuating occupants efficiently.
Documentation is a key part of the role; you will coordinate the timely submission of reports regarding accidents, incidents, and medical responses. Additionally, you will serve as a liaison with WCS Facilities and IT departments by submitting work orders related to security needs and reporting any facility issues to the appropriate entities.
While work is primarily performed at the WCS North Campus, the role requires flexibility to be present at other program sites as needed. Shift hours may vary to include evenings and weekends depending on agency needs. You should expect to work in various weather conditions and maintain a constant state of alertness. The role requires the physical ability to climb stairs, remain mobile throughout facilities, and respond to emergencies, including the ability to evacuate occupants in under three minutes.
