As an Armed Security Officer at CHRISTUS Health, you serve as a visible deterrent to criminal activity while ensuring the safety of patients, associates, and visitors across our hospital facilities. This uniformed position is critical to maintaining a secure environment where care can be delivered without interruption. You will be responsible for patrolling buildings and grounds, responding to emergency codes and disaster events, and conducting preliminary investigations of reported incidents.
The role requires significant flexibility, including the ability to rotate between facilities and travel as necessary. You will work in a dynamic environment that frequently exposes you to aggressive behavior, emotionally charged situations, and hazardous conditions such as fires or chemical spills. Success in this role demands mental alertness, physical fitness to assist with patient care and restraints, and the ability to make immediate, decisive judgments regarding laws and policies.
Candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive pre-employment and post-offer assessment suite. This includes psychological evaluations (MMPI-2-RF-PCIR, CPI, PEI), a clinical interview by a third-party psychologist, and random drug screening. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required; unacceptable records include moving violations or chargeable accidents within a 12-month period.
Upon hiring, specific certifications must be obtained within designated timeframes. Verbal De-escalation training and BLS certification are required within 60 days. Prior to receiving authorization to carry a weapon, officers must complete expandable baton training, defensive tactics, firearms training, qualification, and retention training. Specific licensing requirements apply by state: Texas positions require an active Level 3 Commission from the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau, while Louisiana and New Mexico officers must complete 40 hours of training and receive a letter of authorization from the Vice President of Security before carrying a weapon on duty.
At CHRISTUS Health, we are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. We expect all associates to demonstrate competence in client care that respects the physical, cultural, and developmental needs of each person served. We adhere to strict dress code requirements, mandating CHRISTUS-approved uniforms at all times. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background and are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of safety and integrity in our healthcare communities.
