The Healthcare Support Specialist (HSS) serves as a vital bridge between patients and the care team, facilitating seamless patient visits and ensuring providers can focus entirely on clinical care. This role is designed to anticipate and respond to patient needs while managing the logistical details of a multispecialty medical practice.
In this position, you will coordinate complex appointment schedules, prepare patients for examinations, and manage the flow of medical materials. You will act as a direct resource for patients, verifying demographics and insurance information, advising on scheduling changes, and assisting with the preparation of orders and screening tests. The role involves measuring and documenting patient vitals, as well as providing direct physical assistance during visits, such as helping with restroom or clothing changes, placing apparatus, and assisting proceduralists.
Depending on the specific location, this role may also encompass access and navigation duties. This includes greeting patients and visitors, verifying appointment status in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and enforcing entrance policies such as masking and badging. You will be responsible for monitoring patient and visitor flow, engaging with security and nursing teams as needed, and utilizing conflict de-escalation skills to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
This position requires significant flexibility, including the ability to cross-coverage and travel depending on the location. You must be willing to adjust work schedules to meet department or clinical needs. The role involves navigating multiple electronic applications, including tablets and kiosks, and may require physical tasks such as pushing or pulling up to 75 pounds on occasion.
Mayo Clinic will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position, including F1 OPT STEM.
