As a Second Grade Teacher within USD 259, you will serve as a vital link in our educational community, teaching and facilitating learning for students in grades K-5. This position exists to ensure academic progress, maintain a disciplined and safe environment, and foster a positive culture where every student can thrive. You will work directly under the supervision of the department supervisor, collaborating with a diverse population of students, parents, and colleagues to implement classroom education that meets the unique needs of all learners.
Your day is defined by direct instruction and the facilitation of student learning using current best practices. You will establish clear objectives for lessons and units, creating effective lesson plans that guide daily activities while ensuring students understand their goals. A significant portion of your time is dedicated to communicating with parents and guardians, scheduling periodic meetings to discuss progress, and collaborating with Special Education or ESOL teachers to implement necessary modifications.
Beyond the classroom, you will maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment, manage discipline, and administer assessments to track student growth. You will also support the school's broader mission by supervising common areas and participating in faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and educational conferences. The role requires a high degree of professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when interacting with internal and external customers, ensuring a positive attitude is maintained at all times.
Candidates must hold a valid Kansas State teaching license in Elementary Education (K-9), Elementary Education (K-6), or Early Childhood Unified (K-3 classes only). A Bachelor's Degree is required, and prior classroom teaching experience is preferred. Applicants should be prepared to demonstrate their ability to work interactively with students and manage a classroom of approximately 20 to 25 students.
