As a School Nurse, you will serve as a vital link between the school community and healthcare, dedicated to promoting the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff. Your primary mission is to intervene in actual and potential student health problems while providing essential case management services. You will work to build capacity among students and families for adaptation, self-management, and self-advocacy, ensuring that health barriers do not hinder learning.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Executive Director of Student Services and the Director of Health Services. Your day-to-day work involves providing emergency care for injuries and acute illnesses, managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, seizures, asthma, and allergies, and developing Individual Health Plans (IHPs) for students with specific medical needs. You will also coordinate emergency action plans, oversee mandated screenings, and serve as a key member of the coordinated school health team.
Beyond clinical duties, you will act as an educator and advocate. This includes training staff on medication administration, CPR, and infection control; providing health education to students and families; and consulting on school-wide wellness initiatives. You will also foster a supportive emotional environment by addressing potential bullying and violence, and by collaborating with community health providers to ensure comprehensive care for the school community.
