AECOM is seeking passionate, customer-focused talent for Safety Service Patrol (SSP) Operator positions in Edinburg, VA. Reporting directly to the SSP Supervisor and Management Team, you will serve as a critical link in safeguarding motorists traveling the interstates.
Our SSP program operates 24/7/365, playing a vital role in the delivery of safety and mobility to the motoring public. As a direct report to the management team, you will engage in direct public and multi-agency communications. Your day-to-day involves ensuring roadways are clear of debris, reporting highway maintenance issues, and assisting stranded motorists. You will establish temporary traffic control for emergency responders, detect incidents and disruptions, and support reversible roadway and high-occupancy vehicle operations.
Beyond clearing obstructions, you will offer direct help to individual motorists, including tire changes, fuel delivery, jump starts, water for overheating radiators, and directions. To ensure safety, operators are provided with special highly visible, reflective uniforms and drive specially marked vehicles.
Candidates selected for this role will be required to successfully complete certification training and pass functional tests for each essential function identified. The selection process includes a State and Federal criminal history/security background check, a Virginia Department of Transportation fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC), and a pre-employment drug screen. Successful candidates must also participate in a mandatory random drug screening process and a monthly MVR monitoring program.

Five years of driving experience. Prior Safety Service Patrol Operator experience. Knowledge or experience of incident management techniques. Radio and telecommunications experience. Possession or willingness to obtain CPR certification. Basic competency in using computers such as laptops and smart pads. Working knowledge of basic automotive repair. A positive customer service attitude. Geographic familiarity with the regional freeway system and arterial roads.
