As a Driver for FedEx Freight, you will be the backbone of our logistics network, responsible for picking up and delivering trailers between Service Centers and turn-point locations using tractor-trailer combinations. This role is critical for ensuring freight moves efficiently across the country, connecting our hubs and keeping the supply chain in motion.
You will operate a variety of vehicle configurations, including doubles and triples where applicable. Your day involves performing daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hooking and unhooking trailers and converter dollies, and maintaining accurate daily logs. Beyond driving, you may be required to load and unload freight, chain vehicle tires, and step into the roles of a city driver or dock employee to support operational needs. Clear communication with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues is essential to maintaining schedule integrity.
This position demands resilience and adaptability. You will drive long distances day and night on all types of roads and in all weather conditions. The environment includes exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and diesel fumes, as well as handling hazardous materials shipped under DOT regulations. Hours may vary based on operational needs, and overnight stays may be required for certain schedules. The role requires the physical ability to sit for extended periods and perform tasks involving lifting and maneuvering around trailers.
