About the Role
FedEx Freight is seeking a dedicated Driver to support our freight operations by picking up and delivering goods between Service Centers and customers. This position is integral to our selling process, as drivers actively engage with clients to determine delivery needs and solicit additional business. You will serve as a key representative of our brand, demonstrating strong internal and external customer service while ensuring the safe and efficient movement of freight.
Day in the Life
Your day will involve operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. You will perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers, and secure freight using appropriate tools like pallets, straps, and rope. The role requires hands-on freight handling using motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, and may involve recouping or repairing damaged freight. You will also manage required documentation, comply with hazardous material regulations, and handle cash or checks for freight charges as needed. Communication with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues is essential, as is the ability to work independently or as part of a team in varying weather and road conditions.
