About the Role
FedEx Freight is seeking a dedicated Driver to support our logistics network by picking up and delivering freight between Service Centers and customers. This role is vital to our mission of ensuring timely, safe, and efficient transportation of goods. Beyond driving, you will play an active part in the selling process by communicating with customers to determine their needs and soliciting additional business opportunities.
Day in the Life
Your day will involve operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. You will be responsible for performing daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hooking and unhooking trailers, and securing freight using appropriate tools like pallets, straps, and rope. The role requires hands-on freight handling using motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, and may involve recouping or repairing damaged freight.
Communication is key; you will follow dispatch instructions regarding delays or equipment issues and interact directly with customers to confirm pick-up or delivery details. You may also be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires or assist with dock operations depending on operational needs. The position involves working independently or as part of a team, often in varying weather conditions and on all types of roads.
Hiring Process
Candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. A valid Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements are mandatory. Applicants must have one year of experience within the most recent three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. Note that the Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance.
