Road Driver

Position Overview

FedEx Freight is seeking a dedicated Driver to pick up and deliver trailers between Service Centers and turn-point locations using tractor-trailer combinations. This role is essential to maintaining the flow of freight across our network, ensuring timely and safe transportation of goods.

The Role

As a Driver, you will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable. Your day involves performing daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hooking and unhooking trailers and converter dollies, and verifying all required documentation and reports. You will maintain accurate daily logs and strictly comply with hazardous material regulations and company policies.

Communication is key; you will follow dispatch instructions and report delays, arrivals, or equipment problems as needed. Depending on operational needs, you may also perform duties of a city driver or dock employee, including chaining vehicle tires and loading or unloading freight. This position requires the ability to work independently or as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and motivation while adhering to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements.

Working Conditions

This role involves driving long distances day and night on all types of roads and in all weather conditions. You will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials shipped under DOT regulations. Hours may vary due to operational needs, and overnight stays may be required for certain schedules. The position also requires the physical ability to sit for extended periods and perform tasks such as bending, twisting, squatting, and climbing in and out of the truck.
