At Carle Health, we are committed to fostering a workplace where every team member feels valued, respected, and empowered. Our nearly 17,000 team members and providers work together to support patient care across central and southeastern Illinois. We operate eight award-winning hospitals and a multispecialty provider group with over 1,500 doctors and advanced practice providers. Our facilities, including Carle Foundation Hospital and Carle Health Proctor Hospital, hold Magnet designations, the nation's highest honor for nursing care.
We are developing the next generation of healthcare professionals through the Carle Illinois College of Medicine, the world's first engineering-based medical school, and Methodist College. We offer opportunities in several communities throughout central Illinois with potential for growth and lifelong careers.
The NT9 NICU is a fast-paced unit featuring 48 beds (23 Level 3 and 25 Level 2) dedicated to caring for extremely preterm infants and term babies alike. This position offers a unique opportunity to experience all levels of acuity, from sitting and bottle-feeding a baby to caring for critically ill infants requiring whole body cooling.
Our patient population includes those with prematurity, hypoglycemia, transient tachypnea, respiratory distress syndrome, feeding difficulties, medication withdrawal, and more. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:3. Success in this role requires excellent assessment skills, critical thinking, and a passion for educating families.
The unit culture relies on strong communication between all team members and with families. Supportive teamwork is crucial to providing high-quality care, with new and experienced members empowering each other to drive new patient care initiatives and promote a culture of inclusion. You will utilize skills such as IV and NG/OG insertion, strong assessment, and medication administration while assisting mothers with breastfeeding initiation and participating in multi-disciplinary rounds.
