This position serves as a vital support to Registered Nurses and providers, delivering routine patient care within a structured clinical environment. The role is designed to bridge the gap between administrative coordination and direct patient interaction, ensuring that care delivery adheres to strict Quality of Service Standards and Universal Precautions.
While the scope excludes the administration of IV medications and venipuncture, the role encompasses a broad spectrum of clinical and logistical duties. From performing vital signs and wound care to assisting with minor surgical procedures and diagnostic examinations, the incumbent acts as a key partner in the patient journey. The position requires a high degree of autonomy in following established protocols while maintaining the safety and comfort of patients during examinations and treatments.
A typical day involves a dynamic mix of clinical and administrative responsibilities. You will prepare treatment rooms by setting up sterile instruments and equipment for upcoming procedures, ensuring a seamless workflow for the medical team. Throughout the day, you will assist licensed providers by positioning patients, holding retractors, and passing instruments during minor surgeries or diagnostic tests.
Patient interaction is central to the role. You will reinforce self-care procedures, provide instruction sheets, and educate patients on system policies. Clinical tasks may include administering non-IV medications, performing skin tests, and collecting specimens via non-invasive and invasive techniques. Additionally, you will manage departmental files, initiate diagnostic forms, and facilitate communication between physicians, pharmacies, and patients.
Candidates must possess a valid Vocational Nurse License in California and Basic Life Support certification. The role requires demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique and the ability to work effectively with the public. Specific duties may vary depending on the assignment, and candidates may be floated to other Primary Care Clinics, such as Rancho San Diego and Bostonia, based on departmental needs. Start times may also vary to accommodate operational requirements.
