This position serves as a Unit Educator, Master Teacher, and Master Preceptor within the Medical Department (MDC). The role is designed to bridge clinical practice with education, utilizing specialized nursing expertise to incorporate evidence-based research into patient care plans. You will function as a clinical instructor for students from the College of Nursing (CON) on the home unit while maintaining active clinical skills by providing direct care to a diverse patient population, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
The position requires a proactive approach to patient safety and quality improvement. You will lead educational initiatives, develop clinical strategies, and serve as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team. Beyond direct patient care, you will assist patients and caregivers with health management, problem-solving, and education across the continuum of care. This role is critical for enhancing professional growth within the department and ensuring adherence to hospital policies and national standards.
This position involves heavy work conditions, requiring the ability to exert significant force to move objects or people. The environment includes exposure to chemical and biohazardous materials, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Staff must be prepared for physical risks associated with combative patients and may work in close proximity to incarcerated individuals. A key requirement is obtaining and maintaining MDC security clearance as a condition of employment. Additionally, tuberculosis testing is required upon hire and as needed.
This full-time, day-shift position offers a competitive compensation package with a minimum offer of $42.82/hr and a maximum offer of $46.82/hr. The role includes a Safety Incentive Pay of an additional $6.00/hr. Candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance. Compensation is determined by factors including experience, education, and organizational considerations.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and possess at least 18 months of directly related experience. Essential credentials include a current RN license in New Mexico (or reciprocal agreement) and CPR for Healthcare/BLS certification. Candidates must also be able to obtain Instructor certification for unit-required certifications (such as BLS, ILS, NRP, PALS, ACLS, TNCC) within 90 days of hire. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is considered a nonessential preference that may substitute for additional experience.
