This position serves as a Registered Nurse within the MDC Behavioral Health department, delivering professional nursing care to patients across the mental health and psychiatric spectrum. The role is designed to support recovery by designing and assisting in the development of comprehensive care plans for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Nurses in this capacity act as advocates, educators, and coordinators, ensuring that patient care is administered in a manner conducive to healing while adhering to strict hospital and departmental policies.
The environment is dynamic and requires a proactive approach to patient safety. Nurses must be prepared to work with patients experiencing various cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders, often involving crisis intervention and the management of combative situations. The role emphasizes maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for both patients and their families, while facilitating communication between physicians, medical staff, and the community.
This is a full-time (0.90 FTE) Night shift position. To support staff working these hours, the role includes significant shift differentials: 17% for weekday nights, 26% for weekend nights, and 15% for weekend days. Additionally, a $6.00/hr Safety Incentive Pay is available for this position. A sign-on bonus and relocation assistance may also be available.
Working in a Behavioral Health environment within a correctional setting presents unique challenges. Employees must be prepared to work in close proximity to incarcerated individuals and maintain MDC security clearance as a condition of employment. The role involves significant physical hazards, including the risk of injury from combative patients and exposure to chemicals or biohazardous materials requiring PPE. Strict safety protocols are in place, including tuberculosis testing upon hire and as required, and a zero-tolerance policy regarding cell phones or smart devices on persons, unless a documented medical condition exists.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our organization. Bilingual proficiency in English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is highly valued to better serve our diverse patient population.
