University of New Mexico Hospital is home to the state's only Level 1 trauma operating room and the only children's hospital in New Mexico. Our Surgical Services Perioperative Program is a dynamic, educational facility where teamwork and patient safety are the top priorities. We operate 24/7 across multiple specialized units, including the CCT Operating Room, Pediatric Operating Room, and Eye Surgery Center, serving patients from neonates to geriatrics in a fluid, high-acuity environment.
As an RN in our Operating Rooms and Surgical Services, you will provide direct nursing care within the nursing process, serving as a clinical leader and role model for a positive work environment. Your day-to-day involves delivering safe, compassionate care to diverse patient populations, collaborating with surgeons and anesthesiologists to implement individualized care plans, and assisting with special tests and procedures. In the Pediatric OR, you will specifically focus on transforming young lives through advanced surgical care in a family-centered setting.
For those new to the field, our 6-month Perioperative Program offers comprehensive training through classroom didactics and on-the-job rotations with preceptors, covering equipment, supplies, and policies across different specialties. Upon completion, you will work with the OR Manager to select your schedule. Staff work 3x 12-hour shifts with self-scheduling options and an average of 18 hours of call per pay period.
We have immediate openings across our ORs and Surgical Services. To apply, simply submit your application, and a hiring manager will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your interests and potential placement. We offer a supportive onboarding experience, including comprehensive training for new hires and opportunities for professional growth through educational programs and in-services.
We are committed to diversity and inclusion, particularly valuing bilingual capabilities in English/Spanish and various Indigenous languages (Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo) to better serve our community. Our culture is built on a proactive approach to patient safety, encouraging staff to question current policies and actively participate in improving care standards. We welcome nurses who are ready to adapt to change, prioritize patient safety, and make a lasting impact in critical moments of care.
