You will join the MDC Advanced Practice Providers department, a dedicated group of clinicians committed to delivering high-quality behavioral health services. Our mission is to serve diverse patient populations across the lifespan—from neonates to geriatric adults—by integrating advanced clinical expertise with compassionate, evidence-based care. We foster a collaborative environment where nurses, physicians, and counselors work together to ensure continuity of care and improved patient outcomes.
As an Advanced Practice Nurse in Behavioral Health, you will function as a consultant, educator, practitioner, and researcher. This role is designed to improve specialized patient care by developing and implementing treatment plans grounded in national practice standards and current research. You will exercise full prescriptive authority, including the distribution of controlled substances, to manage complex behavioral health needs.
Your day-to-day responsibilities involve assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients across all age groups. You will conduct comprehensive history and physical exams, perform invasive and non-invasive procedures, and lead patient and family education on preventative care and treatment plans. Beyond direct clinical care, you will serve as a clinical resource for nursing and medical staff, precepting nurses and physician assistant students while actively participating in research studies to enhance professional growth and clinical practice.
Candidates selected for this position will undergo a standard credentialing process, including verification of New Mexico Advanced Practice Nurse licensure (CNP, CNS, or CRNA). Successful applicants must obtain CPR for Healthcare Providers (BLS) and ACLS or PALS certifications within 30 days of hire. The role requires maintaining MDC security clearance and adhering to strict safety protocols, including tuberculosis testing and handling of biohazardous materials.
Application Instructions: Please submit your application highlighting your psychiatric experience and relevant bilingual skills (English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, Navajo, or Spanish). Note that a 60-day written notice is required for eligibility for rehire should you leave the organization.
Patient safety is the cornerstone of our culture. We encourage a proactive approach where team members are empowered to question current policies and processes to eliminate risks. You will be expected to identify and correct environmental hazards and report any potential or actual safety concerns, medical errors, or near misses immediately. We also believe in engaging patients as active participants in their own care, encouraging them to ask questions and voice concerns about their treatment.
Equal Opportunity Employer
We are committed to providing a work environment free from discrimination. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status. This role involves working in close proximity to incarcerated individuals and managing significant hazards, including chemicals and biohazardous materials, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
